Art Fair Day 3

Posted on Sunday, November 29, 2009 in Cards, Shows

final day of the art fair was great, lots of friends stopped by and for many of them it was the first time they’d seen my work. a lot of people browsed my portfolios, and i did manage to sell two pieces, and six more of my coasters. a few friends picked up postcards. and i was able to sit and work on my own postcards for most of the day. while i was happy with my productivity, I wish more of my friends had been supportive and at least bought a postcard. frustrating.

Art Fair Day 2

Posted on Saturday, November 28, 2009 in Cards, Shows

illithid Somewhat slow day at the fair, but I did get my jockstrap finished ( mostly ) and had fun sitting on Santa’s lap. Also for my gamer geek friends, I’ve concocted a holiday card to slake their lovecraftian desires. A holiday card with an illithid and his thrall in a santa outfit and elf/gnome attire.

All in all a good day at the show. A little slow throughout the day, but I got work done.

Art Fair Day 1

Today was the second day of the painted boy gay art fair, presented by the Leslie Lohman Gallery and the LGBT center on 13th street in Manhattan, in the vein of the Tom of Finland art fairs that used to be held in Manhattan.

I got to see some cool new artists exhibiting. Some familiar faces from last spring as well, which is nice, good to see there’s a general artistic community at these events. Though it does look like there are fewer presenters this year than last. The space has a nicer feel overall. Fewer presenters lets the curator open up the main room I guess, instead of dividing it up with a maze of zig-zagging cardboard.

The hot hunky Santa Claus that showed up at the end of the evening was a nice bonus.

I wouldn’t have been able to do it without my friend NB, thanks for helping me set up. And it was nice to sell some work as well. two collectors dropped by, and I got the feeling there was some interest. The other artists seemed to like my work at least.

Kami-Kuri – from the japanese “paper cutting” ( i love that it could also mean god cutting. )

an artistic medium derived from slicing paper to form creative expressions.

The Painted Boy

The Painted Boy art fair is coming up next week, I’m running around like a loon getting all my work ready for display/sale, and creating new work as much as possible. I figure making a masterpiece is like playing the lotto: you have to be creating work, for you to create a masterpiece in the first place.

I’ve got some new work, some work I’ve done at the workshop, and more. I may even try to have some of my craft projects at the booth.

I don’t know where I’ll be on the third floor, or what the space will be like, but please stop on by and say hi. I’ll be there all weekend, so company is welcome!

Sculpture

Posted on Tuesday, November 10, 2009 in Sculpture

so i have a penchant for sculpture, besides the drawing and painting and craftiness. but since the first piece in terracotta from the class at the Y isn’t done yet, I can only post a few pictures from it in progress. Its my first terracotta, hope it turns out well.

Just starting to get the web-side of things up and running in anticipation of The Painted Boy art expo at the end of the month. So much still to do, but I wanted to start getting the website set up. All I have right now is this Word Press blog.  But more will come.
