last class pickup 1
so class is over, and i’m not enrolled anymore. i’ve still got five more pieces to glaze, and lots to pick up from the kiln when it gets out friday. but i stopped by the studio on tuesday to pick up what had already come out of the kiln over the weekend, and to see what had come out of bisque.

last class
last class for a while. I’ve still got 5 more pieces coming out of bisque to glaze. And my mug is just going to start to dry today. so really 6 more pieces. I glazed two porcelain pieces and a stoneware piece.
The mug is my first attempt at shellacking porcelain, in the form of a chris bachio drawing of Cyclops from the X-Men. The jug is glazed with glossy white and old yeller, the vase is glazed with wu yellow and sponged with lords matt green. the stoneware jug is black inside and oribe green outside. even trying a small glass bead in the lid.

porcelain week 3
I did some trimming last night, really happy with the overall shape now of my first porcelain bowl, and happy with my little saki jug. though the neck of it began to break while trimming it, and i had to apply some paper porcelain clay to it to shore it up. A vase i was trimming got really thin too and almost poked through, but i managed to stop short of that.
I also got 5 of my pieces back, the two flower pots, my carved bowl, and my candle holder. which turned out great =) . also got the test bowl back from the glaze pencils. so i’m looking forward to doing more with them.
porcelian week 2
the second week, really the third of class since i missed the first one, wasn’t as productive. but i did get 4 pieces done, and started working on my throwing technique more, to work away from thick bases.
porcelain
worked for a few on some porcelain, but haven’t managed to take good pictures of my stuff while i’m working on it. just going back and updating it now. I made six pieces the first night of porcelain. but only managed to remember to photograph three of them. sorry.
Last day of 2nd class
Class is wrapping up, and the pressure to glaze everything this week is on. The plus side is that in a few weeks I’ll have a lot of nice stuff to take home. the downside is that now I have to glaze things. =(
I may stop by Thursday since I wasn’t able to finish everything last night, and i’ve still got a few pieces to finish trimming.

Fire and Moss
So I haven’t posted in a while it feels like. But I have been going to class! I just forgot to post pictures from class for a while. The K9 Kibble Bowl survived firing, but it developed quite a crack; A lesson for me to compress properly when I make a bowl that big. Its glazed and turned out great. I was very happy with it, and it had an interesting firing.
On to the pictures.

Blue
Nothing was leatherhard for me to trim. So I ended up getting some more experience trying to throw a large vase, and glazing C5′s dish, so I may actually get it back before mother’s day. hopefully. I also got my little canopic jar back. Very happy with the amber celadon exterior / violite interior.

nice spheres
We learned how to throw spheres in class this week. which I’m extremely excited about because of some designs I have on the back burner. ( Ok, I instigated the lesson in lieu of having another trimming demonstration ). While I forgot to take pictures of my first two balls ( one of which i cut off a little too short… so it ended up being more of an upside down bowl… ) I did go back Thursday and throw another five pieces: one enclosed shape like a sphere but with a stem/handle still attached, a thick bowl that i just like the shape of, two pots for some houseplants I got and a fifth shape that was another design from my back burner. So I’m content at my productivity this week.

mugs and jars II
i stopped by the Y on sunday to get in some open studio time. Glazed a few things, and saw waiting for me on the tray: my mug and jar. left them so I could show the turquoise effect to the teacher… and because the jar needs some grinding. it melted down too far. =(
