Fire and Moss
So I haven’t posted in a while it feels like. But I have been going to class! I just forgot to post pictures from class for a while. The K9 Kibble Bowl survived firing, but it developed quite a crack; A lesson for me to compress properly when I make a bowl that big. Its glazed and turned out great. I was very happy with it, and it had an interesting firing.
On to the pictures.

Blue
Nothing was leatherhard for me to trim. So I ended up getting some more experience trying to throw a large vase, and glazing C5′s dish, so I may actually get it back before mother’s day. hopefully. I also got my little canopic jar back. Very happy with the amber celadon exterior / violite interior.

nice spheres
We learned how to throw spheres in class this week. which I’m extremely excited about because of some designs I have on the back burner. ( Ok, I instigated the lesson in lieu of having another trimming demonstration ). While I forgot to take pictures of my first two balls ( one of which i cut off a little too short… so it ended up being more of an upside down bowl… ) I did go back Thursday and throw another five pieces: one enclosed shape like a sphere but with a stem/handle still attached, a thick bowl that i just like the shape of, two pots for some houseplants I got and a fifth shape that was another design from my back burner. So I’m content at my productivity this week.

mugs and jars II
i stopped by the Y on sunday to get in some open studio time. Glazed a few things, and saw waiting for me on the tray: my mug and jar. left them so I could show the turquoise effect to the teacher… and because the jar needs some grinding. it melted down too far. =(

Lorica Squamata
Piecing together Lorica Squamata or Scale Armour, was how I spent my afternoon, keeping my hands busy. While I was at it, I threw together a bracelet of blackened steel links and glow in the dark white rubber rings.

Mugs and Jars
I did a very sloppy job of practicing 2 color glazing for the interior / exterior for the first time. I used an untested turquoise glaze over a celadon glaze for my jar, and st. john’s black exterior with a glossy white under reeve’s green interior. unfortunately i forgot to put a resist over the celadon on the jar to get the separation i wanted on the exterior, and i managed to get some splashes up into the interior both times.

Its passover, and there’s no class at the Y this week. But i did submit a drawing for a small competition at paizo.com

i like dogs… for dinner
I was a productive little motherfucker… after breaking the 4th saki cup and having to throw a few new ones in the hopes that i won’t break it this time. I also ended up trying to throw a food dish for one of my mom’s dogs. hopefully C5′ll appreciate it { Cee – Five . yes. its the dog’s name }.

I got my burnished stoneware vase back, as well as two of my saki cups. waiting till I have a few more pieces to glaze. I see now what they meant when they gave me funny looks for trying to burnish stoneware =/ . I still like it, it’ll be a fun piece.
Also got my three glazed pieces from a few weeks ago back. The Kanji in the little cup bled a little. Note to self: leave some more room for painted on kanji to breathe.
fall
managed to eke out the Fall saki cup. my clay is getting pretty dry, and i’m starting to worry I won’t have enough time to finish summer next week.
I’ve also found the application to go to Tokoname, JP for next year. Its a five week study abroad program. I only get three weeks of vacation. I probably won’t get in since I’m still just a neophyte in the pottery world. But it would be awesome to go back to japan and see Tokoname again.
winter-spring
This week brings pictures of the mug, as well as two out of the four saki cups that i rescued from the recycle bin last week. I’ve already trimmed them down ( and one fell off the wheel, i hope i was able to repair it enough and that it dries properly =/ ). I’ve carved japanese kanji for Spring and Winter into them. They’ll be a full set eventually , spring, winter, summer, fall.
